I agree that messaging is beneficial for a dog with arthritis. I regularly message my 6 month old Labrador dog who had a broken his leg last month .It greatly reduces the pain of the dog and relaxes him

This is a good new for dog lover. Work with your veterinarian and watch your dog carefully so that between you, your dog, and your veterinarian you can determine what is best for your dog. Realize, too, the program may need to be changed as your pet ages, or if symptoms improve.

The goals of pet massage are to relieve your dog's pain and stiffness; the goals are not to rip and tear your dog's soft tissues and cause more harm and pain. Many people, especially the one's who fancy the painful, deep, digging-types of massages, get carried away while massaging their dog and start acting like they are in a contest to see who can squeeze or pinch the hardest. Don't do that! Think soft, easy, delicate; no rough stuff! The best time to perform dog arthritis massage therapy is in the morning and the evening. Morning dog massage therapy helps relieve the stiffness and pain that develops overnight. The evening dog massage session will help reduce the muscle tension and soreness that develops during the day’s activities.

Thanks for a great video. I massage my German Shepherd's legs regularly but the video has shown me in great detail exactly what I should do.

I have a question about the use of valerian. I would like to use it but I understand that it can have a few side effects like headache, drowsiness, dizziness, itchiness and even, rarely, liver damage. Can anyone who has used valerian regularly on their dog comment on this?

This is a very useful post. I am an absolute animal lover and dogs always have a special place in my heart. It hurts me so much to see them in pain. The video was very clear and explained everything very well.

Each dog with arthritis will need to have a management program specifically designed for his needs. What helps one dog with arthritis may not help another. Work with your veterinarian and watch your dog carefully so that between you, your dog, and your veterinarian you can determine what is best for your dog. Realize, too, the program may need to be changed as your pet ages, or if symptoms improve. Exercise in moderation is excellent for any arthritic condition. Follow your morning massage session with mild exercise such as a short walk, but avoid a strenuous workout.

What a wonderful way to help relieve your pet from pain. Especially arthritic pain because anyone who has had or still has arthritis knows of the daunting pain day after day that has to be endured. Any kind of relief is fantastic. Loved the video. Excellent technique. Thanks for sharing. Cheers! Jasper Hotels | Kindersley Hotels
